Esporão, Monte Velho White Blend
The nose on this wine is delightful. Offering fragrances such as honeysuckle, lemon, pear and wet stones. On the palate it's more tropical, with lemon, pineapple and pear flavors. The acidity is sufficient to give a freshness to the wine. It finishes relatively long, with citrus and saline flavors.

I’ve posted a lot about blends recently. Most of those posts have been about red wine blends but this one is about a white wine blend.

This wine comes from a winery called Esporão, located in the Alentejo region of Portugal and more specifically in Reguengos de Monsaraz. I’ve reviewed a number of wines from Esporão in the past and they’ve proven to be a quality producer with a number of wines at reasonable prices. Their Monte Velho white blend is no exception to that. Priced at just $10, this wine is a bargain!

The wine is a blend of the Portuguese grape varieties Antão Vaz, Perrum and Roupeiro. The Antão Vaz contributes body, structure and tropical fruit characteristics to the wine. Perrum, which is know elsewhere as Pedro Ximenez, is often used to produce Sherry but in this white blend adds acidity/brightness and floral characteristics. Roupeiro, which is also called Síria outside of Alentejo, also contributes acidity, as well as floral and stone fruit characteristics, to the wine.
