Review: Jacob’s Creek, Le Petit Rosé
What comes to mind when you think of Australian wine?
I have to admit, in the past, before I took a closer look at Australia, all I thought of was either bulk wine with kangaroos on the label or big, heavy Shiraz. However, like most wine regions, there’s a great variety of wines available from Australia. And some of the wines you find there might surprise you.
This is one of those wines that pleasantly surprised me and it’s a relatively recent addition to the Jacob’s Creek portfolio, being first released in 2016. It’s a French-style rosé, hence the French name, made from a blend of Pinot Noir, Grenache and Mouvedre. It’s a dry rosé that’s crisp and aromatic. I found it goes well with light foods, like salad and pasta, but is also just enjoyable as a sipping wine.
They produce both a Brut sparkling rosé as well as a still rosé under the Le Petit Rosé name. I’ve only tried the still version of this wine.
Strawberry, orange peel and floral aromas make up the nose of this wine. On the palate it delivers a soft and smooth mouthfeel with vibrant lemon, strawberry and mineral flavors. The finish is fairly long with citrus and saline flavors. This is a very approachable, food friendly wine.
