Review: Romeo & Juliet Passione Sentimento Bianco
If you’ve ever been to a major city in Italy the label of this wine may look familiar. You don’t have to go far to find some graffiti. I have mixed feelings about it. Sometimes I see it and say, “Ugh, why do people have to put graffiti everywhere?” But sometimes I come across some interesting, creative graffiti that I can appreciate — and sometimes I see some that’s outright amazing.
As far as the graffiti design on a wine label, I love it! It’s casual, it’s fun, it’s approachable, all of which accurately represent this wine.
The name, “Passione Sentimento,” translates to mean “passion and feelings.” Although the way the artwork is done, it looks like it says “Passi Mento,” which is a reference to the “appassimento” winemaking technique, which involves drying the grapes in trays before pressing for fermentation. This process concentrates the sugars and creates a more aromatic wine. That is how this wine was produced.
The wine is produced in the the Veneto region of Italy and is made from garganega grapes. If you’re not familiar with this grape by name you may be more familiar with Soave, another Venetian wine made from it.
The nose is soft and lovely, offering aromas such as white peach, almond, melon and wet stones. It’s delicioso on the palate too, with bright lemon flavors up front, followed by peach, mango and melon flavors to round it out. It’s every so slightly tropical, but not too aggressively so. The mouthfeel is pleasant and the acidity is sufficient. The finish is fairly long with lingering citrus and peach flavors.
