Review: Trivento, Amado Sur, Malbec
Do you like malbec with a new world style or an old world style? If you’re a new world kind of malbec drinker and want to find a wine with big flavors at a bargain price, this is one to check out.
Like much new world malbec, this one comes from the Mendoza region of Argentina. It’s produced by Trivento under their Amado Sur label. Trivento is actually owned by Concha y Toro, the biggest wine producer in Chile and a company we know well for their production of big, bold and bargain-priced wines. They are a stalwart of great value from South America.
There’s nothing subtle about this wine. It screams, “new world malbec.” The nose is lit up with bright, intense black cherry, strawberry and blackberry aromas with vanilla bouncing all over it. The palate delivers concentrated, ripe black cherry and blackberry flavors with a slight pucker and a hint of green vegetal flavors. The nose leads you to think it may be sweet on the palate, but it’s quite dry. The acidity is bright. The mouthfeel is alright. It finishes with lingering berry flavors.
