La Bastarda Pinot Grigio – Crisp and Tangy
My experience with pinot grigio has been hit and miss. And when it comes to pinot grigio under $10 per bottle it is more often a miss than a hit. I would also say that wines with kitschy branding are more often misses than hits.
With all of that bias to influence me I approached this wine with a fair amount of skepticism, but I was pleasantly surprised. Now mind you, it’s not a “sex in a glass” kind of wine but for the price it’s a reasonably good deal.
This wine is sold as a Terre Siciliane IGT wine, meaning it came from Sicily but not from any specific appellation on the island.
Honeysuckle, peach, pear, lemon and wet stone aromas give a nice nose to this wine. The palate is crisp and light offering lemon and green apple flavors with a salty minerality. The mouthfeel and the acidity are sufficient. The finish is a little quick, tangy and salty.
