Rosa Regale Brachetto d’Acqui

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day and many men will be looking for flowers or chocolates or something sweet for their significant other. But if you want to something a little different, something unique, yet still in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, this wine may be just what you need.

Rosa Regale is a sparkling Brachetto d’Acqui, which like many Italian wines has a name that tells you both the grapes and the location where it’s produced. The wine is made from brachetto grapes and grown in the Brachetto d’Acqui DOCG.

It is a sweet red wine, which is something I don’t review very frequently but occasionally I will. And I can tell you from having been at events where this has been served, many women LOVE this stuff. They rave about it. They ooo and ahhh. They ask for more.

As a sweet wine, it’s a good dessert wine which goes well with other desserts — chocolates and strawberries in particular. Perhaps chocolate covered strawberries.

Well balanced rose, raspberry, strawberry and cranberry aromas give this wine a pleasant nose. The palate delivers sweet plum, strawberry and raspberry flavors, which evolve into something reminiscent of a raspberry cream filled chocolate on the mid-palate and finish. And that finish lingers endlessly. The mouthfeel is nice, with a creamy bubbliness. The acidity is just right to balance the sweetness.

If ever there were a Valentine’s Day wine, this would have to be it. It’s like a dozen roses, a box of chocolates and a bottle of bubbly all in one. How do you top that?
